Fashion past and present
This is a 2
hour exploration of the ever turning wheel of fashion. We will
be looking at the last 400 years of fashion and we will link
costumes from the past with the latest fashions from the 'Catwalk'.
Students will tour the Fashion Museum concentrating on the
similarities and differences between fashions past and present.
Small group research work and sketching will contribute to a final
design task.
Manipulating fashion
This session allows students to explore and understand how
designers from the past and present have utilised fabric in a
creative way. The focus of the session will be on the fine
detail – ruching, gathering, smocking, buttoning etc. Students
will explore the displays, make drawings and take photographs to
identify the key shapes and structures of the fashions on display.
From these research activities they will develop the structuring
ideas that drive their designs using a variety of media and
materials.
