Fashion Museum – Awards & bursaries
K G Ponting Memorial Bursaries for Students
The deadline for 2011 applications
is 31st January 2012
The 2011 K G Ponting Memorial Bursary was awarded to Caroline
Ness, PhD student at the University of Glasgow. The £200 award has
enabled Caroline to travel to Bath and visit the Fashion Museum
Study Facilities to undertake research on the career of London
couturier, Jo Mattli and his contribution to the British fashion
and textiles industry during the mid-twentieth century.
A number of Ponting Bursaries are awarded by the Fashion
Museum each year. The awards enable students in higher
education working on a specific project to travel to Bath to visit
the Fashion Museum in order to look at original artefacts
in the museum study facilities related to their project.
An award covers the cost of travel (by standard class rail or
coach) to Bath and accommodation and subsistence for up to three
nights. Awards are made up to a maximum of £300.
Applications should be made in writing, and sent through the
post, giving clear and full information (including illustrations)
about a named and specific project, together with details of the
type of material that the student proposes to study at the Museum.
Care should be taken to link this material with the topic of
study.
Before submitting an application, it is important that
prospective applicants contact the Fashion Museum by
e-mail to
ascertain that the museum collection includes the type of material
in which he or she is interested.
Applicants must submit a costing of travel, accommodation and
subsistence needs together with first and second choice of dates
when they would like to visit Bath. It is vital to include a
letter of support from a tutor.
Following an award of a K G Ponting Memorial Bursary, successful
applicants must submit a report to the Fashion Museum. The
format of this report should be discussed with museum staff.
