Your Visit to the Fashion Museum
Your visit to the Fashion Museum
What are your opening hours?
In summer (March to Oct inclusive) from 10.30
to 18.00 (last admissions 17.00).
In winter (Nov to Feb inclusive) from 10.30 to
17.00 (last admissions 16.00).
Are you open every day?
Yes, every day apart from Christmas Day and
Boxing Day.
Is there anything for
kids?
Yes. Children can try on replica Victorian
sporting dress. There are drawing cards in the galleries. There is
also a sticker trail and ‘activity rucksacks’ for kids. Just ask at
Reception when you buy your ticket.
Is there anywhere to leave coats and
luggage?
Yes, there is an unsupervised coat rail for
coats. However, our advice is to visit without heavy bags and
rucksacks as we do not have a manned cloakroom.
Are there guided tours of the Fashion
Museum?
Yes. There are Welcome Tours each day at 11.00
and 15.00 during certain times of the year, included in the ticket
price. In addition, for a supplementary charge, you can
arrange exclusive guided tours for your group in advance of a visit
by contacting our group booking team on Tel 01225 477785.
How big are the museum
galleries?
The Fashion Museum galleries are approximately
1200 m3.
How much is on display?
Generally, there are over 180 dressed figures
on display, although these may not necessarily be the same
exhibits. The displays are arranged broadly chronologically.
How often do the displays
change?
Generally, once a year, although this does not
mean that all the displays change each year. We undertake major
display changes from early January to mid February every year.
Can I take photographs in the
galleries?
Yes, but without flash please. There are some
displays where photography is not permitted, and these areas in the
museum galleries are clearly marked.
Can I sketch in the
galleries?
Yes. We encourage sketching objects on
display. It is quite busy in the museum galleries so we ask
visitors not to use paint or crayons with water.
Can I leave my bicycle when I visit?
Yes, there are bike racks at the Alfred Street
side of the Fashion Museum. Sorry though, we can’t look after
children’s scooters at Reception.
Is the Fashion Museum fully
accessible?
Yes. The museum galleries are on the lower
ground floor of the Assembly Rooms and are accessible by lift.
Please mention your needs at reception when you visit so that a
visitor services assistant can take you to the lift. More details
are available on our Access Statement on the website under
“visiting”.
Is there a car park at the Fashion
Museum?
Sorry, no. There is on-street parking in
Bennett Street, Alfred Street and other streets near the Assembly
Rooms, but these are frequently full.
Which car park do you suggest for
visitors to the Fashion Museum?
Charlotte Street car park is the nearest car
park. We advise visitors to use the Park and Rides.
