Antiques Roadshow broadcast

Antiques Roadshow visit to Bath to be broadcast in January

Following the success of the Antiques Roadshow at  Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Assembly Rooms in April, the BBC will broadcast two programmes of the footage on Sunday 31 January and Sunday 7 February.

Over 2000 people visited the roadshow and one Bath family struck gold with a John Lawlor Victorian sculpture of a woman that was valued at around £10,000.

Councillor Terry Gazzard, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure & Culture (Conservative, Abbey) said:

“Bath & North East Somerset Council is very proud of the area's heritage. Not only was the Antiques Roadshow’s visit a great opportunity for local residents to find out more about objects of historical interest they may own, its broadcast is also great publicity for the area.”

The Antiques Roadshow commented: “The Roadshow was delighted to film in such an historic venue as the Bath Assembly Rooms and to see so many wonderful items on the day. The fact that we could make two programmes reflected the quantity of visitors who turned up and the quality of objects they brought along. The Bristol-based production team were also pleased to be filming in their local area for a change - not too much travelling on this occasion and always a delight to be in Bath."

Jenni Wagstaffe from the Bath Film Office said: "As part of our film-friendly policy,  we are always delighted to welcome big television events like the Antiques Roadshow to Bath.  They often require a wide variety of Council departments and local community working together.  In this instance Parking Services were heavily involved as the BBC had a large number of technical vehicles which needed to be parked  close by.  As this production came shortly after another television drama, Four Seasons, filmed in the same area, we all worked very hard to keep disruption to a minimum for local residents".

For those interested in finding out more about antiques, Bath and North East Somerset Council has organised a series of talks with three of the show's experts at the Assembly Rooms.

Christopher Payne, who is his family’s third generation of furniture specialists, comes back to Bath to talk on Thursday 18 February. The Antiques Roadshow’s glass expert, Andy McConnell will give a talk on Tuesday 23 February, and, ceramics expert John Sandon will give the final talk on Tuesday 2 March. All talks are at 7.30pm.

Tickets to the talks cost £10.00 and are available from Bath Festivals Box Office. For more information please visit http://www.bathfestivals.org.uk/.
